How SHL handles the current situation
All the regulations that will apply at SHL as of 30. August 2021 correspond to the current requirements and framework conditions of the Swiss Confederation and the Canton of Lucerne.
Students who can provide a valid COVID certificate will attend all classes in person at the SHL Campus. Those who cannot or do not wish to attend the semesters with a valid COVID certificate have the option of attending lessons digitally, at home or in a designated room at SHL, with capacity restrictions, mask requirement and space requirement.For detailed information on the SHL Safety Concept, please refer to the SHL COVID-19 Protection Concept for the Autumn Semester 2021.
For students in semester 1, special measurements are applied with concerns to the practical training. Please read the aforementioned safety concept carefully. SHL Lecturers and Staff Members:
- SHL Lecturers and staff members must have a valid COVID certificate at all times when present on the SHL premises.
In order for visitors to be optimally prepared for a visit to SHL, please refer to the applicable SHL protection concept in connection with Covid-19. The most relevant points are summarised below.
The following protective measures apply to external guests at SHL:
- Admission only with a valid Covid certificate for persons aged 16 and over, ie. persons who have been tested, vaccinated or recovered from the virus (persons under 16 are exempt). Detailed information can be found on the website of the Federal Office of Public Health or in our protection concept from p. 12 ff (leaflet Covid certificate).
- Mask obligation: To minimize the risk of spreading Covid-19, masks must be worn in all rooms at SHL. Exceptions: During training courses, masks may be removed once in the training room. Likewise, in the Food & Beverage outlets, Restaurant Salt & Pepper, the Club and Café Milano, the mask may be removed when seated at the tables for consumption.
- All visitors are required to adhere to the protective measures and rules of conduct and hygiene which are actively communicated on the SHL premises.
We remain in contact with the responsible Swiss and Cantonal authorities and in this rapidly changing situation, information displayed on this page will be updated regularly as new data is received. The health and safety of all students, lecturers, employees and society in general is our top priority at SHL.

The SHL Campus remains open within the SHL COVID Safety Concept measurements. Our students receive regular updates on the situation and SHL information on the Coronavirus is available on our website. We sincerely request that you consult the detailed information provided on the website for information and answers to your questions in the first instance.
All visitors to SHL Schweizerische Hotelfachschule Luzern, are kindly asked to present the valid COVID certificate on arrival (see the section ‘External Visitors’ above).
In Hotel SHL wearing a mask is mandatory. This also applies if the distance is 1.5 m or more.
No external guests or students without a hotel reservation are allowed at Hotel SHL.
Frequently Asked Questions - General
My final exams have been cancelled, will this affect my application?
There is no cause for concern. As many universities around the world, SHL has decided that calculated grades will be accepted and just as valid as A level and IB grades normally would be, with no distinction between assessed or examined candidates.
What are the general safety measures at SHL?
Access to SHL:
Access to the SHL main building is restricted to the Club entrance (4th floor inclined lift) and the Adligenswilerstrasse entrance (stairs).
The spiral staircase is used for descending and the marble staircase for ascending. Students, lecturers and staff are made aware of this by a guidance system.
Masks are compulsory in the inclined lift.
Class times and breaks will be staggered to avoid large crowds in the break rooms, common rooms and toilet facilities.
To minimize the risk of spreading Covid-19, masks must be worn in all public areas and rooms at SHL. Exceptions: During training courses, masks may be removed once in the training room. Likewise, in the Food & Beverage outlets, Restaurant Salt & Pepper, the Club and Café Milano, the mask may be removed when seated at the tables for consumption.
Consumptions are always taken in a seated position.
Students without a COVID certificate do not mix with students with a COVID certificate during meals.
In order to be able to react quickly and efficiently in the event of a COVID case at SHL, the use of the SwissCovidApp is required by SHL for all attendees and we will take the liberty of checking this. Accordingly, please ensure that you have a mobile device on which the app works.
Disinfectants or hand-washing facilities are provided at the entrance, in common rooms and break rooms as well as in the classrooms.
All rooms are regularly and thoroughly aired.
Tables, chairs, reusable course utensils (e.g. flipchart pens), door handles, lift knobs, stair railings, coffee machines etc. that are often touched are cleaned regularly and disinfected when possible.
